Software Freedom Day 2005 will be held worldwide on 10th September.
Help is at hand if we organise for software freedom day.
We need a minimum of three people to commit to the event and we can apply for helpful freebies.
The SFD site says of the:
Materials:
We have up to 15000 CDs available to send out to the first 150 teams who submit successful requests for materials. The First 50 teams to place requests will also receive 100 balloons... (We can apply for up to 100 CDs, very nice!)
If for any reason we can't avail of this, I've been evaluating
various options for Live CDs for the IFSO so if you're based in Dublin, you might want to join their efforts.
Team Criteria:
- The team must be registered (I'll do that)
- The team must have set up a wiki page (Don't think our Portal qualifies, can anyone add a Wiki?)
- An initial forum post must have been made inviting others to join. (Presumably on the Wiki)
- The team must have at least 3 members. (Stand up and be counted!)
- The request form must be completely filled out with a valid postal address where materials can be shipped (I can look after this)
It should benefit us that we ran an event last year, however small.
If we could hit the Shopping Centres in Longford, Roscommon and Athlone (doable), that would be terrific.
Don't rule out either doing workplace demos. The Gnome LiveCD (aka Gnoppix aka Ubuntu Hoary Live) is ideal for this.
